Well here we are, it’s already past the
new year and we are just getting the
January 2009 Edition posted.
Oops… Life is such sometimes.
The theme for
this issue is new
beginnings and
there have been a lot of them in 2008.
Some of those beginnings will become
a solid reality and others will not. That
too is life.

INSPIRED ACTION - you get a sudden urge to go to the library. You have no idea why you're going to the library right now as you just picked up a dozen books at the Half Priced Books Store. Yet an inexplicable urge is compelling you to get out the door and head for the library. My recommendation? LEAVE NOW! Listen to that urge...

I would like to apologize to all of the faithful readers of our magazine,
for the delay in getting this edition out to you. I could say that we did
not receive all the articles we needed to publish or I could say that
there were technical/computer woes but I want to be totally honest
with you. Kat and I are both Canadians and what do Canadians do
best besides being polite, we PARTY! Being the festive season, we
went a little overboard this and it caused delays in the Winter Edition
of The Magic Happens. We are back on track and other than a few
real computer glitches we finally made it to the Internet.

IHow do I sum up an entire year in just a few words?
Adventurous
Strange - a good way mostly
Productive but often in unusual ways
Mostly, there was a lot of change and I suspect the changes are only just beginning. :) 2009 looks like it might be another year of change… Makes sense doesn't it? Have you ever known a year without massive change?

Ready for New Beginnings!
By Wayne Parker
Every so often in life we have what we call a new beginning. Do you remember a birthday where you were one year older, starting school, high school or college or university. What about getting married, a new job, a new relationship, a loss of a loved one, a brand new creation and so on. These are all new beginnings of sorts and something that most of us look forward to -- with great anticipation or from a fearful 'I am not sure' attitude. No matter how we perceive these new beginnings, it is a change that is occurring in our life. We all handle it differently sometimes with wide smiles and other times with tears.

A Creative Contrarian
By Mary K Weinhagen
Do you feel the change? 2009... a year of amazing change... and POWER! So what are your plans? Last year my theme was... 'A Blank Page' I will never, EVER declare that for a theme again. Oh, it won't surprise me to discover there are days that simply show up as a blank page... but there is something different about purposefully choosing it as a theme for the year and being flexible enough to accommodate a blank day or two during the course of a year.

Change and the Grieving Process
By Kat McCarthy
Most of the time when we think of the subject of grieving, we associate it with the death of someone we care about but the reality of it all is that we humans grieve far more often then most of us are aware of. What really happens to us when a loved one transitions to the next expression of life? We experience rapid unexpected change. Something about the way we lead life becomes so different that it leaves a big gaping hole where someone used to be. It’s the change that creates the grieving...

New Beginnings
By Annette Aben
A beginning is something else’s end. TA-DA! This simple yet profound statement just makes me smile. Think about it, the beginning of laughter is the end of a funny story, the beginning of a garden is the end of a barren piece of land and the beginning of a marriage is the end of bachelorhood.

New Beginnings
By Tracy Swartz
Did you know that our day is made up of new beginnings? If time is an illusion, then each unfolding moment is technically a new beginning. Even though some new beginnings stand out with pizzazz and sparkle, each one, from the momentous to the mundane, contain the potential of expanding consciousness to new perspective and awareness.

Wayne's Blast from the Past - Bring Your Own God To Church
By Wayne Parker
The other evening while wandering around in my mind, out jumped a feel good thought from way back in my life. As teenager of 14 or so, I used to tape songs off the radio onto my own reel to reel tape deck. Now understand that this was not an expensive tape recorder but it worked for me. I would slide the microphone near the radio, waited for a song to be played and hit the record button. I had reels and reels of hits that I could listen to at any time.

Walk on the Wild Side: Looking Over the Edge and Ranting About It
By Jennifer Burrows
"May you live in interesting times," says the Chinese proverb. Interesting, humph! Chaotic and wild may be closer to accurate. How does disturbing and a bit scary sound to you?
I may sound judgemental, but this is a rant and I'm just warming up.
Does life really unfold in perfect order or have we bought the ad? I always thought perfect should feel as smooth as chocolate truffles on the tongue.

The Self Sacrifice Noose
By Kat McCarthy
Is there anyone out there that considers themselves a pleaser? Someone who can’t help but try to please others? Someone who may even think that their ability to please others is directly connected to how well they are loved…? Everyone see my hand waving in the air here? Yup that’s right – I got it too...

Here I AM
A story of Angels
By Annette Aben
I write about angels from what I know of them. While I have had many experiences with the angelic realm, I am still amazed and delighted when I experience a bona fide "angel moment". By that I mean a moment where I know that I know I have been aided by, spoken to or comforted by an angel.

The Other 90%
By David Franklin Farkas
Throughout history mystics in every culture have told us, in one way or another, that everything is energy. It is often said that we are caught in a world of illusion and our attachment to that illusion causes our pain.

Interview with a Songstress: an LOA story
By David Little
This is a story about how I got to interview Brooke Miller, a singer, songwriter and musician whom I am a fan of and appreciate her unique style and talents. I decided I would contact Brooke by emailing her and asking her if I could do an interview for the Jan./09 edition of this magazine. After a few days & emails we agreed to do the interview by phone on November 26th /08 as she was in transit to a gig in SalmonArm , B.C. ( That’s in Canada Eh !). Here is the interview in all it’s wonder:

PRESSURE and TIME
By Larry Hochman
One of my favorite movies is The Shawshank Redemption. It's about a man who is falsely imprisoned for murdering his wife. Andy, the main character played by Tim Robbins did everything he could over the twenty years of time in which the movie took place to keep his dignity and sanity. He carved chess pieces out of rocks. He helped build a prison library. He helped other inmates study for their high school equivalency tests. He even helped the warden in an illegal money laundering scheme.

What I Know for Sure About Women
By Mark Leyner
1. Even little girls, in all their blithe, unharrowed innocence, have a presentiment of sorrow, hardship, and adversity... of loss. Women, throughout their lives have an intrinsic and profound understanding of Keats' sentiments about “Joy, whose hand is ever at his lips Bidding adieu.” 2. This sage knowledge of, and ability to abide, the inherently fugitive nature of happiness somehow accounts for the extraordinary beauty of women as they age.

Write Where I Am
By Tracy Swartz
A few weeks ago I went to the library to pick up some books for my daughter. I love libraries. I can feel thousands upon thousands of stories vying for my attention. The pages whisper seductively. I want to hold each book. Sometimes, I run my fingers lightly over their spines as I walk down an aisle. Perhaps I should have been a librarian eh?
